Today, Sunday 20th September, welcomed a wide range of events here at 42 Waingate, with a highlight being our “Future Memories” workshops.
To kick off the schedule, we had Sheffield Live!’s own Steve Buckley with “Bridges across time”. Steve immersed our guests into deep time, describing the very detailed history this building, and the wider area of Castlegate has. With a range of old photographs, maps and portraits from a wide range of history – this workshop showed our guests just why we picked such a historic building for Sheffield Live!’s new home and community hub.
From 1:30 until 2:30pm, we had a poetry workshop led by Tchiyiwe Chihana from African Voices Platform, who worked with attendees to write poems about their memories of 42 Waingate when it was the Tap and Barrel and Bull and Mouth, culminating in creating a collective poem.
For the last workshop of the day, from 3 to 4pm, Sangita Basudev from Sheffield Live!, led “Imagining our futures”. In this workshop, Sangita got a range of ideas from Sheffield locals about what they’d like to see in our new space when it transforms. Some ideas mentioned were music gigs, media workshops and clothes making events.
These workshops were a great way to get the community involved as we develop the building and made the last day of Castlegate Festival a great success.
